Step Three

Step Three primarily accommodates children aged between 3-5 years and comprises of two base rooms-Step Three A and Step Three B. The emphasis for these children is further developing their independence for when they move on to school. It is important that the many different experiences offered to the children enable them to have lots of fun and to provide them with a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding. Each base room offers and provides opportunities appropriate to the individual child's needs.

The activities on offer include sand and water play, singing, stories, cutting and sticking, role play, sewing, sponge painting and group games. Circle time gives the children lots of opportunity for group discussions and they can also experiment with preparing their own snacks and cooking. Mark making surfaces are always available. We operate a 2 year planning cycle of events in Step Three including colours, shapes, numbers, alphabets and seasons, amongst other topics. This ensures that the areas of learning are not duplicated with some of the children and the layout of the rooms offers the children different areas of learning. The children also enjoy the free flow play into the secure garden.

Regular observations are recorded regarding each child, which track their progress throughout nursery and are used to complete the reflective accounts discussed at our Keyworker evenings.
