First Steps @ Selsey
First Steps @ Selsey is a 60 place Day Nursery that opened in April 2007. All our staff are qualified and experienced in all aspects of childcare. Every child in the nursery has a member of staff as a keyworker.

We are registered to offer care and education for babies from 3 months to 5 years of age when they leave to go to school. Our nursery has a large garden with a nature area that the children are able to observe bugs and insects, an allotment where the children plant and nurture flowers and vegtables that are picked by the children and given to our chef to cook for lunch and a pergola with pots and pans attached so that we can make loud music! Being near the seaside the garden also has a resident boat for the children to dress up as pirates or go on lovely adventures in and we are also growing a willow shelter for relaxing in and looking at a book. You should see our fairy circle too!
As part of our planning the children may go further afield. We go on walks to the beach or the pond to feed the ducks, we may go to the library for story telling sessions or jiggle and rhyme or simply to the shops to buy the ingredients for cooking with.
We have 3 units within the nursery that interlink, allowing the children the opportunity to see their peers and join together for special occasions.
Parents/Carers are just as important as the children and we pride ourselves at involving them in all aspects of nursery life. Many of our parents have been involved in helping with the 'garden project' and we have various events throughout the year for everyone to get involved with e.g. our garden party in the summer.
All the units follow the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance.
Ofsted came to see us in September 2007 when we were only six months old and gave us a 'Good' rating for both care and education.
